Lanternroot privacy

The short version

We keep as little as we can. No ads, no selling your data, no cookies for tracking. If you give us your email, we only use it to send you Lanternroot news.

Lanternroot Post (the newsletter)

If you sign up, we keep your email address, where you signed up (Settings, the farm mailbox, or the pop-up after your screens rejoin), which post link brought you, if any, and the date.

We use it only to send you news about Lanternroot. We never sell it or share it with anyone else to market to you.

We keep it until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Every email has a way to unsubscribe.

Accounts

If you make an account, we keep your email address, a scrambled form of your password (we can't read it), which farm is yours, and when you last signed in. We use it only to let you sign in and play your farm on any device. We keep it until you ask us to delete it.

How people play (anonymous)

To learn what's fun and where people get stuck, the game sends short notes while you play, for example "planted a first seed", "split the screen", "changed a setting to higher", how long you played, and which site sent you (like reddit.com).

On your device

Your farm, your settings and whether you've already signed up are saved in your own browser's storage. You can clear them any time by clearing this site's data in your browser.

Who helps us run it

The game is hosted by Render and the data above is stored in a Neon database, both in the United States. They keep it for us and don't use it for anything else.

Kids

Anyone can play. If you're under 13, please ask a parent before signing up for the newsletter.

Getting your data removed

Email support@lanternroot.net and we'll delete your email address and answer any question about what we keep.
